Based on the fact that income is pretty nice right now, I’ve decided that in the near future I’m going to stop wishing for something, and just make it happen. I headed over to Apple.com to drool over all of the possibilities but I also know there’s a budget to stick to.
For many years I’ve been interested in purchasing an iMac. I’ve liked them since their first original CRT form came out in the 90’s. Since then I’ve been keeping tabs on how things have progressed and while I have not actually pushed in any credit card information yet, I have set myself up with the Apple system of my dreams.
Knowing that the iMac will be used heavily for graphics as well as cross-checking browser compatibility for clients. I know that I’m going to need a top notch system. I do not plan on turning over completely to Mac. I’ve invested too much money in PC based programs that having to double that for Mac purposes would be a complete waste for me. Because of this, I’ve decided on the 17″ iMac. If my dual monitors are 17″ then something in the same size range seems fine for me. I know I could easily just drop $5,000 on a fully loaded 24″ iMac but who seriously needs that kind of screen to design? I’ve seen some pretty amazing things come out of people working on a 13″ Laptop for crying out loud!

For the whopping price of $1,609.00. I hope to have it purchased within the next few months. Hopefully Apple holds out that long with this version of the iMac. The new model is some brushed-steel setup that I just do not like at all. I like the nice clean look of the white monitor. If I’m too late, I may wind up purchasing a skin for it so that I don’t have to look at the steel but that’s something I’ll worry about when it gets here.
There’s even enough money left over out of budget where I can purchase my new iPod. I’ve been using the old 20GB iPod I got from freeipods.com for a few years now and my music collection has drastically grown since then so naturally an upgrade is welcome. Battery life is less than my current iPod but someone told me there may be a way to turn off the color option. I can’t find an older iPod that’s larger than 20GB and not a color screen. I’ll look into it eventually but I’ll be getting an 80GB black iPod, then of course I’ll skin it for protection the way I did with my other one. Never once dropped it, and there’s rubber surrounding it to insure nothing is damaged in case I ever do…heh.
