Anyone running or working for a company would know that taking or making a conference call is just part of the job. Not everyone can be in the same room at the same time, so naturally through the wonderful world of technology you can not only call someone where everyone can be in a few locations to still hear the news but there are also video conferencing capabilities as well. I have certainly noticed a rise in them recently. While I’ve never personally done one (minus discussing a few things with a client over a video-enabled instant messenger) I can say that they interest me quite a bit. It’s not even about business at this point, this is why I do primarily discuss technology on this blog whenever I relate it to business.

Things have really improved over the last 10 years alone. With video options, internet telephone and numerous other factors – keeping your business up and running at more than half the telecommunication costs really shocks me. With the economy the way it’s been, there’s no surprise to me that everyone has considered or has already changed over to VoIP based phones and are heavily dependent upon their webcams in place of actually showing up at someone’s office. This is especially good for those of us who travel frequently and just can’t seem to make it back to the office for that big meeting or even just getting in touch with their children to say goodnight and move them off to bed. It amazes me, to many different degrees.

Okay so what does this have to do with formal Conference Calls. I’m sure that corporate offices depend heavily on conference calls in order to stay in touch with their employees (whom have traveled to numerous locations around the globe) and I’m sure that with those travels these employees are sitting down with corporations in other parts of the globe as well. Foreign exchange with business is always going to be a huge deal, especially when resources in many countries are dwindling and you need the outside support to survive. Unfortunately our economy as at an all time low, I’m tempted to say that if things keep on this path we’ll have another “Great Depression” on our hands. The only difference is it’ll be a technology savvy one this time.
