Web Hosting Pal

With the horrible weather to hit the east coast this past week, it was no surprise to me when the servers went down. I kind of have them scattered about with different companies and the one located on the east coast was hit pretty hard with a nasty storm, borderline tornado. I know that there’s nothing I could control in that situation but now I’m thinking I need to move everything to a place where the biggest weather issue is the lack of rain. So after talking to Jackie I’m now looking for hosting companies based on the west coast.…more»

How to Send Big Files Online

In the past, if you wanted to send large files to friends or colleagues, you had to upload them to FTP servers or hope that you made it under the file-size limitations of the recipient’s e-mail account. But with file-sharing applications such as DropSend (www.dropsend.com), you can send large files without fear of bounce-backs. DropSend will be familiar to anyone who’s sent an e-mail attachment. The service replicates the look and feel of your Inbox by including contacts, subject lines, and text areas, but one-ups most e-mail services by letting you attach files as large as 1GB. When recipients open…more»

Upgrades

Thanks to Fantastico finally being upgraded on the servers, I’m now using WordPress 2.5.1.  It only took about 10 seconds to upgrade but that’s the beauty of auto-install programs.  With the upgrade came updates for about 20 of the 35+ plugins that this domain uses.  Thankfully everything is automatic there too so what I thought was going to be a daunting task of downloading all of the .ZIPs and then uploading manually – it was actually quite simple and only required the click of a mouse.  That’s always a good thing. I’m in the process of updating my portfolio.  I…more»

Stylish Web Design

I do a lot of surfing around the Internet, probably more than I really should considering I have a mountain of work to do. Today I came across a site that’s pretty similar to my own. It’s a design blog that houses numerous articles for just about everything connected to the Internet. I spent a lot of time reading through all of the articles and a few of them really stood out for me, mainly the one I read about customizing user accounts on Windows Vista and the favorite article of mine was on the topic of how important joining…more»

Outages

With the recent beautiful weather, there was really no question as to when the storm was going to hit. The weather for the last week has gone to at least 10 degrees above the seasonal average so when it was followed by a string of storms I knew that something was going to suffer because of it. I’ve lost Internet three times in the past few days, it was 24-hours before I could get it back at one point and all Comcast had to say about it was “sorry – we can’t control the weather”. Now, I could understand if…more»

One of those days…

Today was pretty difficult for me. Not only have a few unsuspecting memories popped into my head, but work has kind of got me overwhelmed. Trying to balance three clients at once, when you thought you only had two when you woke up that morning, can prove to be a tad bit difficult – that’s for sure. I’m confident that I can accomplish everything I need to do, I just know I’m adding a fourth on Friday and I’m not too sure if I’ll be able to manage without wanting to rip my hair out (figuratively speaking – of course).…more»

Busy Bee

I know I’ve been slacking off here, but when you’re bogged down with multiple clients and finally beginning to get somewhere with your business – the blogging aspect of things really doesn’t matter too much.  Well, it’s not that it doesn’t matter but it certainly doesn’t take first priority either.  I do like having an emotional outlet but lately I’ve put that into my private journal.  Which any tech-nerd would despise because it’s hand written.  It’s not based on some funky blog script heh. My new contract position is working out pretty nicely.  It’s given me the ability to expand…more»

Cash Advance for Tires

Hopefully in the next couple of months I’ll be able to look into Car Loans. It’s my goal to make enough money to pay off my existing personal loan and then continuing to send out $300 a month to get myself a new car. For the past few months I’ve been driving Sean’s and while it gets me to where I have to go, it would be nice to have something to call my own. As I’ve noted in the past, I’ve been looking into the Chevy Cobalt Sedan. A few people have asked why I don’t just get the…more»

Increase Browser Speed

Are you interested in getting the most out of your browser? I don’t know anyone in this day and age who will actually sit there and wait patiently for their browser to get to the same speed as their Internet connection. There are a few tricks of the trade that anyone could benefit from! An important note about this article is that I was lucky enough to find these browser tips in the March 2008 issue of Laptop Mag, full credit and copyright goes to them of course. I’ve personally used these tips and I have to say that they…more»

MaxWebDesign.eu

As I noted in a previous entry today, I’ve been floating around a lot of different websites in search for new and interesting ideas. I would also like to add a few more websites to my RSS reader (courtesy of Google of course) so finding any sites that will spark my interest are more than likely going to make it into my bookmarks. Today I found maxwebdesign.edu, it’s a blog for web design and being as I’ve done the same thing here on my own site. While there isn’t any major “Web Design” going on with this particular site, there…more»
