Drivers Help, don’t they?

I was lucky enough to find the driver for my Epson Stylus C80 to be compatible with Vista.  However, it’s going to cost me about $80 to reload it with new ink considering the cartridges have been empty for lord knows how long, it did attempt to print a test page though and very few lines showed up on the paper, so at least I know it works. So I went poking around on Staples.com as well as Microcenter.com and found that it would just be cheaper for me to purchase a new printer all together.  One that, from the…more»

Networking with Vista

For Christmas I bought a new computer for my father.  He was on an older Compaq with Windows XP.  After fiddling with a few wires and changing things out, he’s now setup on a new Acer system (new 17″LCD and everything) with Windows Vista Home Basic.  At home we were able to finally get Vista and XP to work on the file sharing as well as printer sharing aspects of things.  Unfortunately that isn’t the case at my fathers house because we’re unsure of what settings we changed at home in order to make all sharing possible. Sean was able…more»

After Season Shopping

My sister and I are going to do some shopping tomorrow afternoon. This year we both cleaned up on gift cards so naturally we’re looking to do some serious shopping. With about $400 extra dollars in hand we’re going to get some much-needed clothes shopping done and hopefully I’ll get to swing by Microcenter and head into the Mac store so I can fill up on a few things for the Mac. This year I was hoping to get a printer for Christmas, it was on my Amazon wishlist but I don’t think that’s the case so of course I’ll…more»

OS X Tiger & Windows Vista Printing for Dummies?

I’m still searching around the Internet for the proper way to connect to a Windows Vista Home printer from Mac OS X Tiger.  A lot of the resources I’ve found are telling me to use programs like Bonjour, Samba and Networking Neighborhood based methods but none of them want to work for me.  I’ve been floating around all Mac and Windows based forums, even the official Apple Support forums located on discussions.apple.com and I’m still unable to find anything that will make this whole printer setup work. I’m usually pretty good at troubleshooting things, what the heck am I doing…more»

How do you connect OS X Tiger to Windows Vista?

For the past few weeks I’ve been trying to figure out how to properly network the house so that all computers can successfully access each other.  I’m having a hard time accessing the printer (setup on Vista) from the Mac.  Sean was able to configure XP to work with Vista so that we can print.  There are hundreds of tutorials online to figure this out but none of them have worked, I’m not sure what he did on the Vista system in order to gain proper access to the printer, but he’s still done it either way and I just…more»

Upgrade from Tiger to Leopard?

I typically send out my Amazon Wishlist for Christmas every year to family and friends because they tend to ask me what I want and it just got to the point where sending it as a quick list would make things much easier on me.  This year I sent it out, as usual, and I’d recently done some updates on it – adding lots of Mac related items so that I can really learn the ins and outs of the operating system.  I’m in love with the idea of being a new Mac user, so much that I’m even considering…more»

Overjoyed

Sean has surprised me with an early Christmas gift. He’s known for quite some time now that it’s been my absolute dream to own a Mac so naturally when money loosened up and Christmas rolled around – he made it a point to go out and buy one for me. Last night he came outside (I smoke outside) to let me know that his computer was on the fritz and I told him to just take my desktop until you can figure out what’s wrong with yours. I have my laptop anyway so it’s not like it’s a big deal,…more»

Macbook Pro

Since I’m in the market for a new laptop, I’ve found myself leaning towards a MacBook Pro. Even going with their base system it’s still so much nicer than the laptop I’m currently on. For $1,999 you’re given the following specs by default. – 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo – 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM – 2x1GB – 120GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm – SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) – MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display – Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS – U.S. English – Accessory Kit Me, being the customizational freak that I am – decided that if I’m truly going…more»

If I Upgrade

After reading a few articles around the Web, on top of my own personal experience with it, I feel I’m ready to make the jump from XP to Vista.  Now, I’ve been an avid XP user for years, I couldn’t wait to upgrade from 98 to XP when it first came out.  Windows ME was just the worst version of Windows for anyone to even consider using.  Visually it looked the same as 98 and when it came to stability, 98 was the route to stay on.  XP surprised me in many ways, and still manages to do so.  I…more»

Too good to be true

I wouldn’t consider myself psychic by any means but there are certain times in everyones life when they have a dream that becomes a reality sometime in the near future.  A few nights ago I had a dream that I was sitting at my desk and designing a site for someone, now this really isn’t that uncommon considering it’s my day job but that’s besides the point.  I wasn’t on MY desktop, my desktop is very easily found.  It’s this big bulky black case with blue lights sitting on a very pale desk.  I noticed that my mouse didn’t have…more»
