New PC for Daddy

I bought my father a new computer for Christmas.  The one he’s currently on now is a few years old, and since he was sharing it with my sister for a while, it was overloaded with crappy programs and files that really began to slow things down.  That and the fact that it’s only like 256-ram on XP Home.  So I went all out and got him a new desktop with Vista, I also went out of my way to get him a new monitor so he could throw out the crappy CRT that he’s been working off of and…more»

Flipping

I’ve been doing some flipping through this months issue of Laptop Mag and I came across an article called “How to Manage Your To-Do List Digitally”.  I’ve always been a fan of post-it notes but that’s based on the fact that I’m an organizational freak. The one that stood out the most for me is the Outlook 2007 To-Do Bar.  It’s $109 at Staples. Their review is as follows: What We Like – We love that Outlook 2007  displays your to-do list and upcoming events alongside your mailbox, an ingenious consideration for people likely to receive invitations and assignments via…more»

Making the switch.

I’ve been back and forth on whether or not I’m going to leave the PC world in the dust and transfer everything over to a Mac in the near future. An avid mac-user friend of mine is trying to convince me to drop about $10,000 on a fully loaded Mac Pro with a 30-inch cinema display. I put that idea out of her head when I sent her a screen shot of the money in my bank account. Now she’s all up in arms about how a loaded iMac would do the same thing for me. I’m upset to know…more»

Step into the NOW!

Am I the only person who uses spreadsheets to keep track of my earnings? With all of the money being exchanged on a daily basis, I make it a point to document everything. I have it setup on multiple sheets and it’s broken down by the day. Sheet #1 houses all of my paid blogging earnings. Sheet #2 houses all of my advertising and design work and Sheet #3 houses all of my web hosting payments. A friend of mine was having trouble keeping track of everything and I pointed her in the direction of the Spreadsheet option with Open…more»

External Hard Drives

If it weren’t for my external hard drive, I probably wouldn’t be as organized as I am.  Having the ability to access the drive from both my desktop and my laptop has proven to be nothing short of wonderful for me.  My problem – however – is the fact that I have to keep my desktop on even when I’m using my laptop.  This to me seems like a complete and total waste of the electric bill.  I barely use my desktop but it’s constantly running because I’m on my laptop all of the time and I need to access…more»

Emptiness

My laptop feels a bit empty.  I reinstalled Windows last week and still haven’t gotten around to installing any of my programs back to it.  I need to put Dreamweaver back on here so I can get back to work on some websites, and I also need to install Thunderbird and link it to my external hard drive so I don’t have to keep logging in via Browser anymore.  The only programs on here are Firefox and AIM, plus virus and spyware protection.  For now it’s really all I need, but when I head up to NY this weekend I’m…more»

Affordable Luxury

If you’re lusting for HD-DVD playback, dazzling display, and powerful sound the Toshiba Qosmio offers but just can’t swallow the $2,000-plus price tag, you’re in luck.  The new Qosmio F45-AV412 has many of the most desirable features of it’s older sibling, but its price tag starts at a reasonable $1,649.  The fairly portable 6.6 pound F45-AV412 forgoes a 17-inch screen for a 15.4-inch 1280×800-pixel TruBrite display.  You still get built-in Dolby surround sound technology and an HD-DVD-ROM/DVD SuperMulti+/-DL optical drive for enjoying the latest high-def movies.  Connect this notebook to your HDTV via the HDMI port to get true 1080i…more»

Getting used to Vista

Over the course of the last few days I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning. So it’s no surprise that when I’m in the kitchen for over an hour, I’ll hop onto the Desktop out there and check my email – just to see what I’m missing out on (if anything). The desktop is Vista based and up until recently I wasn’t really much of a ‘fan’ of it. Now, don’t get me wrong – until XP is completely wiped off the mark, I’ll be using it. I am, however, messing around with little things here and there just dabbling…more»

Dual-Monitors…continued

My search for a practical Fish Tank screen saver that also worked on a dual-monitor configuration has ended. This past evening I came across dreamaquarium.com, and I couldn’t be happier. It works for numerous monitor configurations and for $20 you can add extra fish to the screen as well. I’m just too happy for words! When I can get around to loading some batteries into my camera, I’m sure I’ll have a picture of the new setup soon. Technorati: Screen Savers, Dual Monitors
